Online Individual Therapy

Flexible Online Counseling that Suits Your Global Lifestyle

What is online therapy and is it for me?

Online therapy is particularly well suited to meet the challenges of people living globally mobile lifestyles. My clients are frequently digital nomads, cross-culture people, young people making the transition to university, and expats—people who deal with the ups and downs of a nomadic lifestyle each and every day.

Because for all its flexibility, world travel and new experiences, the life of a globally mobile person can present unique challenges that strain our mental health.

    • Missing out on relationships back home
    • Longing for a steady and predictable daily, monthly, and weekly routine
    • Feeling out of place, unique, or like a stranger wherever you go
    • Trouble connecting with peers and making friends
    • Lack of emotional security
    • Difficulty communicating
    • Sense of restlessness or “lack of a home base”
    • Depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders—sometimes PTSD
    • Lack of a stable support network when experiencing lows, depression, or other mental health challenges

When Online works really well:

Aside from the stressors that go along being globally mobile, the lifestyle itself creates obstacles and challenges to seeking help through therapy and counseling, which tends to exacerbate the problem. To extend the benefits of online integrative arts therapy to the entire global community, I conduct all online therapy sessions by Skype. This is especially useful when:

You live in a rural or remote location

Many of my clients live in rural or alpine places without easy access to practical or affordable transportation. With online therapy, all you need is a stable internet connection and an open mind.

You need a therapist who understands

That is, an English speaker who is culturally competent and has extensive experience working with digital nomads, expats, third-culture kids, and other members of the global community.

You’re just too busy

Maybe you have a demanding job that requires long hours and time on the weekends. Or maybe your work/life schedule makes squeezing in time for in-person sessions difficult (if not impossible). Online therapy gives you flexibility without forgoing the important benefits of regular therapy.

Your occupation frequently takes you away from home

This is common, especially for people living and working abroad. Often, people with international occupations and lifestyles are not home long enough to schedule and attend in-person counselling, let alone do the laundry and unpack. Online individual therapy goes where you go and fits in with your busy nomadic schedule.

Seeing a therapist feels culturally unacceptable

Unfortunately, not all cultures embrace or condone therapy as an acceptable path to achieving mental health and well-being. Online therapy offers a private and anonymous way to seek help with a trusted and experienced psychotherapist.

In-person therapy gives you social anxiety

This is very understandable. Going to in-person therapy sessions can sometimes feel intimidating or create unwanted anxiety, especially for people dealing with complex mental health issues. Online therapy provides a chance to meet with a therapist without having to leave home.

Illness or physical handicap

For some clients, a long term illness or physical handicap makes leaving home for therapy difficult or completely impractical. With online therapy, your sessions come to you within the comfort of your own home.

Issues I can help with

Though depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders are the most common conditions that I treat, these conditions are usually rooted in the distinct mental health challenges that ‘globally mobile’ people face.

Many of my clients often feeling generally out of place, or like a stranger wherever they go. Some clients have trouble building lasting relationships, or feel a constant lack of emotional security that creates stress. Having difficulty communicating due to new languages and cultures can be difficult, too.

All of these challenges create various mental health conditions, of which I have extensive experience treating the following:

  • Abuse
  • Addiction(s)
  • Anger management
  • Anxiety
  • Attachment disorders
  • Bereavement and Loss
  • Bullying or Harassment
  • Career counselling
  • Childhood related issues
  • Culture shock
  • Depression
  • Divorce Eating disorders
  • Eco-Anxiety
  • Family conflict
  • Isolation and Loneliness
  • Low self esteem
  • Panic attacks
  • Personality disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychological impact of physical illness
  • Relationship issues
  • Self-harm

Enjoy a private setting, accessible anywhere

Remote locations, or frequently changing locations, should not be an obstacle to therapy. Online therapy allows you to meet with me no matter where you are in the world in a comfortable, private, one-on-one setting.

Work with a fellow “global nomad”

Not only do I provide online therapy for the global community, but I’m part of that community myself. I meet with all of my clients online and have designed my sessions to meet the needs of a lifestyle and background I am already very familiar with.
